209. SHAMA

to hear; to listen Chomon a hearer; a listener

210.

SHAMAR

to watch; to guard; to protect

Samurau (H)

an ancient Japanese word meaning "to be on guard"

211.

SHAMRAI*

a guard. Although this word does not exist in the Hebrew language, it is, nevertheless, of an accepted grammatical construction, and may have been used in the past to designate "a guard." The suffix "a i " is used in the Hebrew language to designate either the occupation of a person or his character. Thus, for example, from the word BANA, meaning "to build," we have BANA , meaning "a builder."   In the same way it is quite possible that from the word SHAMAR , meaning "to guard," the ancient Hebrews used the word shamrai, to designate "a guard."

Samurai (H)

a warrior. The ancient class of Samurai warriors emerged during the Heian period, when owners of big estates had to hire guards to protect their property from marauders. In the course of time, the men whose duty was to Samurau, meaning "to be on guard" (see also No. 210), became Samurai - "guards." These guards gradually developed into organizations of professional warriors, always ready to fight for their lords.

Genesis 2:15 創世記

וַיִּקַּ֛ח יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהִ֖ים אֶת־הָֽאָדָ֑ם וַיַּנִּחֵ֣הוּ בְגַן־עֵ֔דֶן לְעׇבְדָ֖הּ וּלְשׇׁמְרָֽהּ׃

God settled the Human in the garden of Eden, to till it and tend it.

15 神である主は人を連れて来て、エデンの園に置き、そこを耕させ、また守らせた。
