2391 Ta. aval rice obtained from fried paddy by pestling it; avai (-pp-, -tt-) to pound in a mortar, crush, cuff, prod; avaiyal well-husked rice. Ma. avil rice bruised and dried; avekka to beat rice; aval flattened rice obtained from paddy by pestling it. Ko. kac av- (avt-) 

to pestle (millet) second time; aky av- (avt-) to pestle (millet) third time.

  To. af- (aft-) to pound with light strokes; ofil puffed rice. Ka. aval pound, beat; n. pounding, beating in a mortar; (also aval-akki) rice bruised and crushed.
