Introduction
My thesis is that God is still on plan A – that being Genesis 1:28 "Be fruitful, multiply and take dominion (Steward may be a better word) of the earth." As we know Adam and Eve lost the authority, to take dominion, to Satan. With the incursion of the Elohim or watchers of Genesis 6 God had to intervene with the flood and start over with Noah and his family.
Somehow, we are told, the Nephilim[1] were also on the earth before and also after the flood. God's next step was to pick Abraham and build his family to take on the "Genesis 1:28 commission".
Here is where, I believe, the splitting of Abraham's grandson's family into two is a masterful strategy. Jacob has twelve sons which become the twelve tribes of Israel. At a future time this family becomes a kingdom and then it is split into two kingdoms. We know them as the Kingdom of Israel/northern kingdom/Ten Tribes/House of Israel/Ephraim and the Kingdom of Judah/ southern kingdom/Two Tribes /House of Judah /Judah.
Both of these kingdoms would/will fulfil specific roles that advance the stewardship of the earth. One would multiply greatly and fill the earth and for that to happen they would be expelled out of the land God promised them and sent to the ends of the earth. The other would be called to birth the Messiah, who would take back the authority from Satan and return it to mankind. That person is Yeshua, King of the Jews.
Because the former kingdom was in exile, the latter kingdom was tasked, through the disciples of Yeshua, with going and finding the "Lost Sheep of the House of Israel". And find them they did. The northern kingdom were in large numbers on the other side of the Euphrates, according to Josephus. Therefore the early church filled its ranks with the House of Israel's descendants that were now known as gentiles (or nations). As spirit filled believers they were powerful to change the environment around themselves. This was the start of the RESTORATION of ALL THINGS. The Jewish apostles grafting the gentiles (many from the former House of Israel) back into the family was the start of the RESTORATION of the KINGDOM OF ISRAEL.
This process continues today and I believe that as the world understands that almost everyone living now is a descendant of Jacob, one way or another, and they are restored to the family then this will be the key for the restoration of the earth and the many mountains of influence in the globe.
Psalm 22:27 Alludes to this. All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord: And all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.
The rest of this booklet will endeavour to unpack this thesis.
Thesis
The time has been, and is about to be complete, for the Restoration of the Kingdom of Israel. It is the question on the disciples' lips just before Jesus is taken up, at the beginning of this age. Will you, at this time, restore the kingdom to Israel?
Acts 1:6 So when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" 7 He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
What does "the restoration of the Kingdom of Israel" imply? As the late Dr Michael Heiser would quote "continuous but also not yet", and this applies to the Restoration of the Kingdom of Israel, as well as the many other theological topics. Looking at this phrase from a first century perspective is different to how most evangelicals would understand it. Evangelicals may just read it as another way of saying the "kingdom of God" or the "kingdom of heaven". However, the first century disciples are expecting the Messiah to bring back the other ten tribes of Israel, the northern kingdom and reunite them with the Judeans of the House of Judah and reign over them as king. I postulate that that unification began in the first century and has continued throughout this age until today. The unification through the Jewish disciples (Judah) finding the lost sheep of the House of Israel (Ephraim) in the nations. [The New Testament writers refer to them as the Gentile believers.] It is verses such as these following that the disciples are expecting and are enquiring as to the timing.
Ezekiel 37:24 And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them.25 And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children's children for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince for ever. (The previous verses are about the reuniting of the 'Two Sticks' representing the reuniting of the Two Kingdoms of Israel into 'one').
Why, you may ask, would they expect that? Well, various prophecies speak to the joining of the two houses, Judah and Ephraim[2]. Here is a list that speaks to the separation and then the unification at a future time.
Zechariah 11 speaks of the previous division. 14 Then I broke my second staff Union, annulling the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.
Jeremiah 3:8 She saw that for all the adulteries of that faithless one, Israel, I had sent her away with a decree of divorce. Yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but she too went and played the whore. Here the House of Israel is given a certificate of divorce whilst the House of Judah does not receive one.
Ezekiel 37 16 "Son of man, take a stick and write on it, 'For Judah, and the people of Israel associated with him'; then take another stick and write on it, 'For Joseph (the stick of Ephraim) and all the house of Israel associated with him.' 17 And join them one to another into one stick, that they may become one in your hand.
Hosea 1:11 And the children of Judah and the children of Israel shall be gathered together, and they shall appoint for themselves one head. And they shall go up from the land, for great shall be the day of Jezreel.
The New Covenant is made between the Two Houses Hebrews 8:8b "Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah," quoting Jeremiah 31:31.
The historian Josephus was well aware in the first century that the other ten tribes were not thought of as being in the land of Judea. He writes….
133 and came to Babylon, as very desirous of going down to Jerusalem; but then the entire body of the people of Israel remained in that country; wherefore there are but two tribes in Asia and Europe subject to the Romans, while the ten tribes are beyond Euphrates till now, and are an immense multitude, and not to be estimated by numbers.[3]
So, this are enough examples to show that the whole house of Israel or the kingdom of Israel included the bringing back and joining the exiled ten tribes to the post Babylon house Judah – the other two.
Yeshua even stated in Mathew 15:24 He answered, " I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." And in John 10: 16 And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.
God's issue: – The clean-up and restoration of the earth.
God's solution: – He created man in His own image to be fruitful, multiply and take dominion of the rest of the earth which had become formless and void.[4]
There is a legal aspect to why God needs the Restoration of the whole kingdom of Israel to achieve the Restoration of the earth.
- God gave Adam and Eve authority to create, as they were made in His image.
- God owned and renovated the earth after the previous inhabitants.
- God passed the authority to rule and reign onto Adam and Eve.
- Satan usurped that authority by way of deception.
- Yeshua was offered that authority, by Satan, in return for worship, but declined and won it back through His sinless sacrifice.
- Yeshua gave that authority back to mankind.
- Mankind, by way of becoming Sons of the Living God, through faith in Yeshua, is tasked with the Restoration of All Things.[5]
So why is the Restoration of the Kingdom of Israel part of this restoration of all things?
- God started again after Noah and the flood.
- He picked Abraham to outwork His redemption plan.
- Abram was promised to become a father of many nations.[6]
- Abraham, Isaac and Jacob would father the Twelves Tribes of Israel.
- Abraham's seed promised to be a "Blessing" for all families on the earth
- Under David they would form a kingdom
- After Solomon it would be split into two kingdoms.
- One kingdom would carry the DNA for the future Messiah who would win back authority as stated above but….
- The other kingdom would be sent to the ends of the earth to walk upon and take possession of the earth.
- The great commission[7] connects the House of Judah disciples to the House of Israel, at the ends of the earth.
- The Israel of God gains ever increasing numbers of both Judah and Israelites (now known by many other names).
- So the restoration of the kingdom of Israel is both continuous over the last two thousand years and also not yet. Not yet as there is not yet one kingdom of Israel. The picture is much like a zipper closing halfway.
So imagine, every family on the earth has some small trace of DNA from the tribes of Israel being pushed – through migrations, wars, famines and captivity -to the ends of the earth. God's promise to Abraham, that you can possess everywhere you put your feet, must have some legal ramifications as his prophesied descendants – as numerous as the stars in the heavens – also tread out the earth.
Some people groups have cultural memories that set them aside as being Israelites, like the B'ney Menashe in NE India or the Karen in Myanmar or the Kyrgyz with their epic chants; now, also, the Mikirs of the Karbis, Assam. Two thousand years ago, people still remembered that they were Israelites, though their clan or tribal names were no doubt different. Many of those peoples were found by the goodnews of the Kingdom of God.
Of course much has been written about the Celts and their Israelite past; Cymri being the known name that the Welsh still call themselves which is the same name as the Khumri that they were taken into captivity under. [8] The Scottish declaration remembers their past also.[9] Steven M Collins writes about the Saxons, Sak and Sacae as the sons of Isaac. George Moore M.D. 1861 finds evidences in India.[10]
Africa is not left out nor the Americas. Other people study these parts of the world.[11]
Now, imagine if Holy Spirit filled peoples in each tribe, tongue and nation start to use their creative authority to bring about restoration in every sphere. Surely, this will bring about the restoration of all things, as prophesied in Acts3:20,21.
I think that it is precisely Abraham's descendants, becoming Sons of the Living God, who have the legal right to removal principalities and powers in their corner of the globe. The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdom of our God.
My Testimony
Why am I writing about this topic? Often cults pick up on this topic and use it as a story to get vulnerable people to feel like they belong.
Alternatively, Israel is often equated with only the Jews and the small land mass along the coastline of the Levant. Anyone talking about anything else is labelled as using Replacement Theology. So this is my journey into the understanding that I am expounding here.
The same year that I heard the voice of God telling me to check on my 4 week old baby (who I had just put in his bouncer on the floor) – that saved his life from the obstructed airway caused by his sibling – I joined a local church and ladies group. It was 1990 and the passage that I was supposed to read was Romans 10. Well, I accidentally read Romans 11. It was so impactful that I read it three times. My life would continue to loop back through this passage and each passing through would be at a deeper level of understanding.
I heard that same voice again in 1995. Our family was going through a financial crisis but I had not prayed about that but instead had prayed for my husband all year. In fact, it was the same week that he told me, "There must be a God" that I heard, "I want you to go to the Feast of Tabernacles in Jerusalem". As we were so broke that year I assumed it would be 1996. I asked for a sign of confirmation that 1996 would be a jubilee year or something like that. Well it was reported to be the 3000th anniversary of David making Jerusalem the capital. "Good enough" I thought.
The three weeks in Israel was truly life changing. Cardio gnosis is how I describe knowing things that I previously had not known but did now by divine revelation. God showed up and put His stamp on so many things.
One was to sign up for a quarterly magazine called "Exobus" that was being promoted from one of the stalls at the ICEJ Feast of Tabernacles celebration. So, back in Australia in early 1997 I read from this journal about a people in NE India wanting to make 'aliyah' to Israel because they believed that they were part of the Ten Lost Tribes. Again that voice, "I want you to pray for those people". This I did from 1998 to 2007 – I prayed every day. So nine years of asking God 'to raise these people up to be a highway of holiness' culminated in me and my husband going to Aizawl in Mizoram in late March of 2007. I felt that I was to go there and teach Passover and rather Yeshua in the Passover as opposed to the truncated Easter story, a prophetic word I had had many years earlier. I also understood that I was to tell them to, "NOT TO CONVERT TO JUDAISM". In other words, I was to both confirm their Israeliteness and their Christianity.
Just before and also as I arrived for the first time in Aizawl, Mizoram, a number of confirming signs happened to give me confidence that I was on the right track for a divine assignment.
Sign 1. On the day of buying air tickets from Sydney to Aizawl, my husband came to me and told me of a television program on our national broadcast channel, ABC[12]. The show content was about Christians in the northeast state of Mizoram believing they were from one of the Lost Ten tribes of Israel converting to Judaism, and the controversy surrounding that. WOW! I thought! God put a fifteen minute show on television just for me, confirming even Aizawl, the city I was to fly into and also the mandate of "Do not convert to Judaism."
Sign 2. After we arrived in Aizawl, my husband and I travelled around the city. One of the buildings on the main road had a sign, "Jew and gentile alike." The following day we made our way back to this building and upon entering I was handed a cell phone by two old tribal women. On the other end of the line was a man speaking in clear English, telling me to visit him in the men's ward of the Civil Hospital. The following day 4th April 2007, I made my way to the ward. One man was surrounded by many people, one who turned out to be this man's wife with a video camera and the others, all his elders. His name was Lalchhanhima Sailo and he was the leader of Beit Israel for the Asia Pacific region, a daughter organisation of Beit Israel in New Jersey of R. Jonathan Cahn fame. He was also the head of CIPC (Chhinlung Israel People's Convention – with some 250,000 members at the time). Neither of these things I knew of at the time. I simply told him of the Lord's leading that caused me to arrive at his bedside and after an hour and a half I left the hospital. What happened next his daughter told me and then it was confirmed years later by one of the elders who were at the bedside that day. I was told that after I left the room he told his wife and elders that, "Now I know everything that I have been doing is from God and I can go home now". With that he cried happy tears and passed away. I would not find out until the next evening as I was preparing to teach at a Passover Feast.
The year of the writing of this article is 2023 and now Lalchhanhima's niece is my daughter in law and I have almost three Mizo grandsons, Gideon, Isaiah and Noah, yet to be born. The reason I write the above is to say that the following theology and research has been divinely led.
After I came back from Israel in 1996, I realized that the "church" by and large continued to 'sin' in the same pattern as Jeroboam did. It would be many years later that I understood that the early church had been filled with the "Lost Sheep of the House of Israel" – the northern ten tribes. No wonder the pattern was the same![13]
My first visit to Mizoram was March 2007 as noted above. I would go there again in October of 2007 after taking Lalchhanhima Sailo's wife, Muani, and their daughter Jenifer to Israel for the Feast of Tabernacles. In 2008 a team of six Aussie women returned and we attended a Jubilee conference/worship event, revival and healing meetings and a Passover Feast. At the conference I sat next to Zaithanchhungi, who invited all of us for dinner.
The following year I stayed at the home of Zaithanchhungi for four months. Muani's aunt was radically healed on my first day back in Aizawl, Mizoram. She was expected to pass away but had refused the hospital, saying "Isuan (Jesus) will heal me." She had heard that I was coming back and waited for me because of the healing meetings the year before. The following day and for the next four months, Mizo began to come to the home of Zaithanchhungi, where I was staying, for healing prayer. Sixty per cent of people were healed that came for prayer.
My second last day in Mizoram, in 2009, I decided to spend with Zaithanchhungi as we had both been so busy, her with selling her new book and me with a healing ministry, so we hadn't spoken at length, to each other. Anyway she told me a story about Richard Wurmbrand[14] coming to Aizawl for the centenary of the Welsh missionaries arriving in 1894. A Jew by birth, Richard Wurmbrand acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah while in his 20s. In the years that followed, his path crossed with many other Jewish believers. He would found the magazine "Voice of the Martyrs". He was a guest speaker at the centenary celebrations. Zaii, as she was known, shared with me about wanting to meet him in 1994 at the centenary and give him an article that she had written about the Mizo/Kuki of NE India being children of Israel and some 2,200 people who wanted to make Aliyah to Israel. She said that he published it in his "Voice of the Martyrs" magazine.
When I had rung the editor of the "Exobus" magazine in 1998 to enquire about the article they had published in 1997 [ the one that God had spoken to me through and asked me to pray for "those people" ] he told me that the article was a cover story from another magazine and the person who sourced it had left Exobus magazine and he had no idea where the article came from. When Zaii told me that her article had been published in Voice of the Martyrs in 1994/5 I realized that it was the same article that I had read only republished in 1997. It was at that moment that I understood that through divine providence that I had been staying at the home of the author of the article through which God had spoken to me to pray and then come to these wonderful, unique people. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. These moments underscore the importance that Yehovah sees in the finding of the "Lost Sheep of the House of Israel" and the understanding that it is part of the larger restoration process.
I've been to Thailand with Zaii and found related customs and language with the Karen, Lahu and Lisu. I've flown twice to Jerusalem to confront the I.C.E.J.[15] leadership about their support of Jewish organisations actively facilitating Christians converting to Judaism and the I.C.E.J.'s efforts of funding their return to Israel and other Christian support, such as widespread promotion of a "small number of Jews, from the Tribe of Manasseh, has been found in NE India". What the ICEJ and other Israel loving Christian organisations fail to appreciate is the statement from our saviour, "I have other sheep that are not of this sheep fold, I must bring them and they will be one flock." Also, "I am sent but for the lost sheep of the house of Israel."
Let's talk about the Blueprint
Paul understood well that God was tearing down the wall of partition between those far off and those nearby. He was about the restoration of the commonwealth of Israel. He was an apostle to the gentiles (nations) because, I believe, he understood that by bringing the nations into the Israel of God[16] that this was the way that 'all Israel' – both houses – would be saved. Paul sees Jew and Gentiles as the flipside of the House of Judah and the House of Israel. [17]
The Blueprint is God raising Jewish disciples and apostles to go and look for and bring back into the family all those from the northern kingdom, who were far off. We see Paul quoting Hosea 1:10 in Romans 9:24-26 when he uses gentiles to refer to a fulfilment of prophecy that is specific to the northern kingdom.
Romans 9:24 on us, the ones He also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles? 25 As He also says in Hosea:
I will call Not My People, My People,
and she who is Unloved, Beloved.[a]
26 And it will be in the place where they were told,
you are not My people,
there they will be called sons of the living God.[b]
Zechariah's prophecy in chapter 9:9-13 has Yehovah bending Judah as His bow and filling it with Ephraim – Ephraim referring to the Ten Tribes, of course. This follows directly on from a messianic prophecy in verse 9. Does this allude to the Jewish disciples seeking and saving the other ten tribes, who, in turn, take the same "goodnews" message to an ever expanding sphere of nations?[18]
The Coming of Zion's King
9 Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion!
Shout in triumph, Daughter Jerusalem!
Look, your King is coming to you;
He is righteous and victorious,[a]
humble and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
10 I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim
and the horse from Jerusalem.
The bow of war will be removed,
and He will proclaim peace to the nations.
His dominion will extend from sea to sea,
from the Euphrates River
to the ends of the earth.
11 As for you,
because of the blood of your covenant,
I will release your prisoners
from the waterless cistern.
12 Return to a stronghold,
you prisoners who have hope;
today I declare that I will restore double to you.
13 For I will bend Judah as My bow;
I will fill that bow with Ephraim.
I will rouse your sons, Zion,
against your sons, Greece.[b]
And is this the way that Yeshua defeats the sons of Greece, the gods of old, through an ever expanding lengthening of the tent pegs of the land of Israel?[19]
B'ney Elohim – b'ney el chai
Yeshua demonstrates His power over sickness and disease and over the demonic procession of humanity. He delegates that power to His disciples so they too can release people from those bondages. He gives them and therefore all of us, by extension, the ability to become Sons.
"Sons of the living God" reminds me of two passages of scripture; firstly, in Roman's eight, where all of creation is waiting for the manifestation of the Sons of God[20] and secondly, as a prophecy to the exiled, dispersed northern kingdom of Israel, who have at a then future date become "Not my people" and also have become as numerous as the sands of the seashore.[21] "Are we there now?" If all of creation is groaning ………… awaiting the manifestation or revealing of the Sons of God then this is an obvious reference to the how creation is restored and that is through the empowered sons of God.
If becoming Sons of the Living God is a promise from 2,730 years ago, to the exiled, dispersed northern kingdom[22] then the restoration of the kingdom of Israel becomes central to the Restoration of All Things. When that happens it will be like heaven on earth.
Sheep and the Good shepherd
The promised One, Yeshua, said "I am the good shepherd and My sheep hear my voice, I have other sheep that are not of this fold, I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd." [23]
Here, we can see a reference to the disciples and the believing Judeans with another totally distinct group. It is the gentiles. In Greek the word gentiles is ethnos, in Hebrew, goyim. Both can be translated as "nations"; nations other than the people of Israel. In Hebraic thinking there is "Ammi" God's people and "Lo ammi" not a people [of God]. The other nations all worshipped other gods who were not God. Israel has Yehovah as their God. Scripture references that the northern kingdom of Israel is rejected by Yehovah. They are divorced because of infidelity[24] and become "Lo ammi" – not My people[25] – because they are products of spiritual prostitution. The northern kingdom ceases to exist as a covenant people and they become just like the gentiles, or other nations. So how does the northern kingdom come back into covenant? How do they join again into the kingdom of Israel? It is by the disciples of Yeshua going into all the earth and preaching the "Good News" and adopting them back into the family, one person at a time. This is who Yeshua is primary, although not exclusively, referring to as "the other sheep that are not of this sheepfold" in John 10:14-16.
High Priest prophesies one man dying for the nation
John 11:49 Then one of them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, spoke up, "You know nothing at all! 50 You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish." 51 He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation, 52 and not only for that nation but also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one.
Modern Zionism
Modern Zionism is concerned with returning Jews to the modern political land of Israel. Christians have been co-opted into helping bring Jews to the land of modern Israel; but they are forgetting the blueprint that Yeshua told the disciples in Acts 1 when asked how/when the Restoration of the Kingdom of Israel would take place. That answer already stated above is to go into all the world and preach to all creation, whoever believes will be saved[26] . This is what Yeshua told His disciples at the end of Matthew and then reworded it in Acts 1 with the message of go from Judea to Samaria to the ends of the earth. It is in the going to all the nations that the exiled dispersed intermingled children of Israel, predominantly the northern kingdom, who are now "lo ammi" [no longer a covenant people] are returned to the family of God and become sons of the living God".[27] See chart on page 19
Biblical background
After the destruction of the temple in 70AD, the apostles set about going to the ends of the earth to preach to all creation – as Yeshua had commanded.[28] It would be by this process that they would come upon the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel. You see, the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel, that is the northern kingdom of the ten "lost" tribes, had already started to fulfil the prophecies of becoming "a multitude of nations"[29]. See footnote below. This prophecy of becoming a multitude of nations had started with Abram becoming Abraham, a father of many nations.[30] Isaac would inherit the promises to Abraham.[31] Jacob would also inherit those promises,[32] but it would be the younger of Joseph's two sons brought before the dying Jacob, Ephraim, that would be specifically told that his descendants would become a multitude of nations. This prophecy to Ephraim can be seen reiterated in the New Testament in Roman's chapter 11 and Luke chapter 21.See footnote[33] .
This timing prophecy of, "until the fullness of the gentiles", can be exactly translated as "a multitude of nations." Understanding that the descendants of Israel were to be intermingled into all nations, like dye mixing in water, broadens the "who is Israel?" question.

Mizo puan are worn by Ephraim, Manasseh and Joseph. CTea as Manasseh is wearing the Manas chi, a hat worn by the men who are tasked with chanting the Manas epic. The epic takes 7 days of chanting around the clock to complete. Richard Hewitt has found over 300 parallels to the bible in its many stories. He has also found cultural connections between Kyrgyz and North-East India Kuki tribes. Vast amounts of people remember their Manmasi/Menashe/Manasi ancestor in the northeast of India/Myanmar. The ancestor of the Kyrgyz, Manas, surely must be one and the same – Manasseh prom the above prophecy.
Let's look back to the apostles' question and Yeshua's answer in Acts chapter one. "When will you restore the Kingdom of Israel (both houses)[34]?" Jesus replied, "It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by His own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts1:7-8
My apologies for all the footnotes and detail, but I wanted to make the point that by the first century AD that the "Lost Sheep of the House of Israel" had become a multitude of nations and this is why Paul was referencing the "Mystery of the Gentiles" in Ephesians chapter three and also why he took his mission as the apostle to the gentiles (read nations) very seriously. He understood that Israel was now a multitude of nations, as prophesied but not understood, a mystery, but definitely a planned strategy of Yehovah for the saving of all mankind. So, in going to the gentiles it would be in this way [grafting the wild olive branches back into the root of the patriarchs] that "All Israel would be saved."[35] This will literally bring about the Restoration of the Kingdom of Israel.
Therefore, searching for the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel is not a side issue but is in fact the BLUEPRINT that Yeshua left us all with. Now, you can understand why I see modern Zionism, as referenced above, as replacing the Good News.
Historical background
So, after the destruction of the temple in 70AD, the apostles set about going to the ends of the earth to preach to all creation – as Yeshua had commanded. Were they looking for and finding the Lost Tribes of Israel? Rabbinic writings indicate that the northern kingdom readily accepted Christianity. The Rabbis saw this as a continuation of apostasy. Even today, there are rabbis that think that the Lost-tribes of Israel will be found within Christendom and must be "set free from their idolatry to Jesus".
| This advertisement, above, that was taken out in the Jerusalem Post some years back (2016/7) supports the assertion that Rabbinic Jews, at least some of them, are looking to Christians – but specifically Jewish Roots/Torah keeping Christians as a sign that the northern kingdom is awakening to who they are. They are looking at the Christians after millennia of seeing them as the enemy. Isaiah 11:13 comes to mind. Then the jealousy of Ephraim will depart, and the adversaries of Judah will be cut off. Ephraim will no longer envy Judah, nor will Judah harass Ephraim. Is 11:13 |
They see conversion to Judaism as the restoration process. This is not, however, how the first and second century apostles saw the restoration process; nor is it the way that 19th and early 20th century missionaries understood the "Great Commission". They have left evidence that they were on the lookout for Israelite customs among the various people groups that they found themselves living with.
Even before 70AD, pious men from all nations were in Jerusalem for the Feast of Pentecost.
Acts 2:7 Astounded and amazed, they asked, "Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans? 8How is it then that each of us hears them in his own native language? 9Parthians, Medes, and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,c 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome, 11both Jews and converts to Judaism; Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!"
Many of these places, mentioned above in Acts 2:9-10, are places that the northern kingdom had descendants that had settled under many names. It was after 70AD that the apostles were forced to leave Jerusalem. Josephus, post the destruction of the temple, writes in his history, The Antiquity of the Jews, that it was widely understood that the Ten Tribes had not returned but were known to be an immense multitude on the other side of the Euphrates.[36]
Independent Nestorians
It is to this location, in Asia minor, that Asahel Grant M.D.[37] finds an ethnic group that he identifies as 'Independent Nestorians' who have an oral tradition of being from the Ten Tribes (not Jews nor Kurds) both of whom lived nearby, and an oral history of many of the apostles bringing the Good News to them in the first century AD.
The Karen of northern Myanmar/Thailand
In the early 1800s, missionaries to British East India found Hill Tribe peoples that were reported to have Israelite like customs. These people easily became Christian. Rev, Thomas T Torrance quotes Dr McGowan in the preface of his book. This is because he thought he had found the progenitors of the Karen in and around Chengdu. Both groups had Israelite customs, one invisible God they worshiped and the people of the Ch'iang Min near Chengdu had a priestly system that remembered the Levitical order in part.
Following are quotes from those early missionaries:-
Dr. and Mrs. Mason, with other agents of the American Baptist Mission, have for long been at work among the Karens. It will be necessary for me to give an historical sketch of the Karens who inhabit this country, and in so doing I shall give several extracts from the letters and papers of Dr. and Mrs. Mason, specially the latter. They write…
It is supposed by some that the Karens are part of the lost tribes of Israel. How numerous would be the members of these tribes were the sum of all who are set down as belonging to them told! It certainly is convenient when you meet with a people whom you cannot account for, to give "the lost tribes" the benefit of the doubt.
There is, however, this to be said for the above-mentioned theory, that [564/565] Dr. and Mrs. Mason found very remarkable and accurate traditions regarding the creation, the fall, and future regeneration of man.[38]
Karen Traditions by Rev Baw Ney
When coming to a new village Baw Ney would gather the children and sing traditional Karen songs for them. After he had the children's attention, he would teach them to sing the Karen songs and to read the Karen Bible. Soon the adults of the village would gather to see what was happening. It was at this time that Baw Ney recited traditional Karen poems and stories. One of the stories he always told was the ancient Karen story about the Golden Book of Life.
After Y'wa created the earth he decided to go on a long journey, and so he called his sons together and gave each a book of life. To the Karen, the eldest, he gave a Golden Book of Life. To the others he gave other books of life, until finally to the white man, the youngest brother, he gave a White Book of Life. The white brother took his White Book of Life and went away to the west, and was never seen again. As long as the Karen read and followed his Golden Book of Life, his life was happy and prosperous.
One day the Karen brother was burning and clearing a field in the forest. He put his Golden Book of Life on a stump in the field while he was doing his work. In his carelessness, the Golden Book of Life was burned, leaving only fragments that he brought back to his house. Gradually the older brother neglected these fragments, until one day they fell through the cracks of the bamboo floor in his house, and the pigs and chickens underneath ate them up.[39]
Karen Traditions other- The Karen reckon 2010 to be their year 2749. This means that they look to BC 739 as the year of their founding. In their legends Karen speak of coming from the land of 'Thibi Kawbi" which some have thought may indicate Tibet and the Gobi desert. Some Karen oral traditions refer to crossing a river of "running sand" as an important event in their history. There are Chinese sources which refer to the Gobi Desert as the "river of sand," and it is probable that the Karen originated in an area bordering Tibet. They crossed the Gobi Desert into China, and gradually made their way into the mountainous areas of Burma. In ancient times most of Thailand's Karen came over the eastern borders of Burma, and this is still true today. The first Karen most likely immigrated to Thailand before the Thai, and just after the Mon Khmers. Today almost all of Thailand's Karen live in the western part of the country along the shared border with Burma.[40]
George Moore M.D. in 1861 wrote a book about the Saxons in India. The last chapter of this book is also on the Israeliteness of the Karen.[41]
Steven M Collins[42] writes about migrations of the Ten Tribes to places such as Carthage and the various trading ports along the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea and beyond Tarshish to the British Isles before the deportations by Assyria. The ongoing war between Israel and Judah created the conditions for families to leave for better prospects in the remains of the Trading Empire that Solomon oversaw; much like the potato famines caused the Irish to migrate all around the world. This also included the Silk Road east towards China. The Tribe of Dan left many clues in the various naming of Rivers, peoples and places.
Between 740BC and 722BC Assyria relocated the rest of the House of Israel. They were in large numbers south and east of the Black Sea. Historians now know that the name the Assyrians referred to them by was Khumri. This name means "the sons of Omri", as in King Omri, one of the Israelite kings. From this location they went west as the Celts, north through the Caucus Mountains as the various Caucasian tribes, Saxon, Cimmerian, Goths, Visy Goths, Alans etc.. into Europe. They were the Scythians and Parthia and then the Saka. This last group went north and east. Christianity in the first and second centuries followed the pathways that the Ten Tribes took. Avigdor Shachan, in his book, "In the Footsteps of the Lost Ten Tribes", relates the Israeliteness of the peoples along the southern and eastern coasts of India. He writes on page 221, "St Thomas did not need to exert much effort to convert these Israelite communities to Christianity, because the spirit, the Jewish way of thought, and even many rituals and commandments of the Torah of Moses in Eretz Israel, were in harmony with early precepts of Christianity. It is therefore not surprising that seven hundred years after they had been forced out of the Promised Land the members of the Taxila community, descendants of the Ten Tribes, now living throughout Asia among nations whose appearance and customs were different, gladly opened their doors, their synagogues, and their hearts to Thomas. They regarded Thomas as a 'brother' sent from afar, from their brethren of the Tribes of Judah and Benjamin."
He continues quoting Farquhar[43] and Godbey[44], "The community leader, Haban, a descendant of the Ten Tribes who had close ties to the Parthian monarchy, encountered a man named Thomas on one of his commercial voyages. …… The two became friends, and Haban invited him to visit him in his home of Ctiesiphon. While there, Thomas founded the Christian-Israelite-Parthian Church, whose first converts, were all Israelites."
Another story[45] notes that "After arriving to the Island of Sokotara with a group of merchants and baptizing the locals, St Thomas proceeded to Malabar, where he happened upon festivities marking the marriage of the king's daughter. At the wedding a group of Israelite women sang Hebrew songs in honour of the occasion." Thomas explained the song's meaning in Messianic terms regarding Jesus.
Shachan goes on to relate the traditions of the Syrian church in Travancore where Thomas arrives by sea to Muziris in 52AD and establishes seven churches along the Indian coast. He then moved onto the eastern coast and continued to the Chinese coast with its numerous ancient Israelite communities, composed of remnants of those from the northern and southern routes who hoped to proceed to Japan. Returning from China to the southern coast of India, Thomas continued with his conversion efforts. Once again he proved successful, so much so, in fact, that by 72 AD he had incurred the wrath of Brahmin zealots, who proceeded to stab him."
Shachan notes on page 223 that Patriarch Nestoriani in 7th century wrote that, "Christianity had gotten a foothold among the Israelite community, which encompassed 1,200 parsangs in India, some 5,000 kilometers of the Indian coast."
Is the church Israel?
It is an historic fact that the church has called herself Israel during the last two thousand years and teachings about "Replacement theology" have abounded since the creation of Zionism and modern Israel as a political state, so now it is no longer acceptable for us Christians to think of ourselves as Israel. We are "other", "a parenthesis" says the false teachings of dispensationalism. However, a look at history shows that pockets of "Lost Tribes" or Israelites in the nations easily became Christians. Therefore the church was swelled with peoples from nations or gentiles who were once Ancient Israel right from the first century since Christ. We have already read the advertisement on the Jerusalem Post, above, where orthodox Jewish groups are looking to the Hebrew Roots movement within Christianity as a sign that the House of Israel within the church is waking up. "There can be no Israel without Yosef" is their cry.
When the Rabbis are asked if they think that the House of Israel is inside Christendom, they often answer, "Yes".
Remembering who they are through remembering the Torah
Yeshua said in Luke 24:44 "…. Everything must be fulfilled that is written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms." Many, many people, including the New Testament writers, have documented the multitude of ways that Yeshua fulfilled the prophecies. Moses told the Israelites to expect someone like himself to come. And When He comes, you must listen to Him.[46]
As apostate as the Israelites were at the time of their deportation and relocation it appears that they kept an expectation of a coming one and also some memories of the rituals of the Torah.
This wonderful story told by the Very Rev Thomas F. Torrance, Emeritus Professor at the University of Edinburgh, about a time in his youth as a missionary's son when he lived in the hills near the Min River north west of Chengdu, Sichuan, China, underlines this above statement. Relating to the Ch'iang Min he writes…
My father was deeply impressed with the Chiang way of life and their monotheistic religion which stood out in marked contrast to the prevailing idolatry of the Chinese. But it was the biblical nature of their faith and worship, and the detailed correspondence between their religious observances and the teaching of the Old Testament, that captivated him. They were very shy people, but when he gained their confidence he found it easy to preach the Gospel to them, for they received it gladly as the fulfilment of their own age-long beliefs. The more fully he shared their life and got to know them, the more he became convinced that the Chiang Min were not only a people of Semitic stock, but somehow or other related to ancient Hebrews of the Patriarchal era.
I have vivid recollections of my own experience among the Chiang, when I was a boy of twelve or thirteen years of age I used to accompany my father on his missionary journeys in the highland fastnesses of the Chiang Min. They took place during the summer months when the mountains and valleys were clear of snow and the villages of the tribespeople were accessible. In 1925 I had the privilege of being present at the village of Oir, some ten thousand feet above sea level, situated in a lateral valley behind Weichou, when a venerable Chiang priest revealed to my father for the first time the full rites of the day of atonement in the Chiang liturgical year. When my father read to him the sixteenth chapter of the book of Leviticus, the priest leapt off his seat in excitement, exclaiming that these were the lost Chiang Scriptures. And then, when my father turned to the New Testament and read the first chapter of the Gospel according to St. John, to show that the Lamb of God, the Saviour of the world whom the Chiang had been expecting all through the centuries, had already come into the world, the priest believed in Jesus Christ and he and his household were baptised. That was for me a quite unforgettable experience. [47]
Why understanding the Blueprint is important
All this to say that indeed ancient Israelites in other lands, when presented with the gospel of Jesus Christ, converted easily to Christianity just as Paul understood should happen and Jesus commanded would happen when the disciples took the message to the ends of the earth.
The message of the Promised One 'having come', resonated with the descendants of the House of Israel. They easily became Christians – people of The Way. The dispersion of the northern kingdom had gone to the areas along the Black sea, through the Caucus Mountains and then into Europe. Martin Trench has a great video showing this history.[48] Some names, according to Steven M Collins[49], which they dispersed under, include Scythians, Parthia, Alans, Saka, Saxo, Sacae, Goths Visy Goths, Cimmerians, and Celts.
All these people would be found by the Good news of the kingdom of God – becoming One New Man – the wall of partition being taken down and those who were far off (the disowned House of Israel – now known as Lo Ammi "not my people") being joined together with God's family to become the Commonwealth of Israel.[50]
The pattern restated is therefore 'apostles being sent by the Holy Spirit to centres of concentrations of the Ten Tribes of the House of Israel. The message resonated with them as they remember who they are and they are grafted back into the family "mishpachah" of God. In this way "All Israel will be saved." Romans 11:26 Psalms 22:27
Modern Zionism ignores the prophesies that relates to the Ten Tribes being found and becoming Sons of the Living God [Hosea1:10, Romans 9:24-26] but Paul clearly see the "going to the nations[gentiles] as being the fulfilment of the restoration of the northern kingdom into the Whole House of Israel. Please see Romans chapter 9:24-26 and Ephesians chapter 3 where Paul prides himself as the "apostle to the gentiles".
This is the mystery that Paul sees;
- The northern kingdom of Israel has been exiled to the ends of the earth.[51]
- They become a multitude of nations aka gentiles
- They are known as the Lost Sheep of the house of Israel and are the other sheep, not of this sheep fold that, Yeshua speaks about
- When these Israelite nations are found, they, alongside others, are grafted as branches into the root of the Olive Tree of Israel. [Rom 11]
- In this way all Israel will be saved [Rom 11:26]
- And all the kingdom of Israel is restored [Acts 1:8]
- The land upon which these 'Lost Ten Tribes' now reside also becomes part of the extended boundaries of the land of Israel; effectively bringing all the world and creation under the jurisdiction of the King of Israel, that is Yeshua the Messiah. [Is 54:2,3,5]. All nations – the whole world.
The question should be asked, "How do we, as the ecclesia, go forward with presenting the Messiah to the nations in each shifting culture?" Today in Japan there is a thing, small at first, of Messianic Shintoism. It has arisen from sincere Shinto adherents looking at the Israeliteness and even Christian concepts within the early history of Shinto philosophy. It appears that the Hata tribe, who brought the pious traditions of Shinto into Japan in the 2nd and 3rd centuries, and also later, were themselves Israelites carrying the Christian message. Japanese Shinto are sincerely asking, "Who is this God that we honour through our traditions?" Messianic Shino is a similar concept to Messianic Jews. They recognise and honour their culture and customs, especially as they relate to Yeshua/Jesus/Isuan /Isa/Uzumasa and their Israelite or Jewish past.
Can this concept become part of bringing the Messiah to the shepherds in Kyrgyzstan with their ancient Israel culture preserved in the Epic of Manas[52] with over three hundred biblical references in that chanted oral history and a myth of 'the Wanderer' who comes and visits and blesses families?
What of the Mikirs[53] in Assam with their Israelite customs and a vague memory of a humble king, who was born in a manger, who will come again? How do we help them to find their Messiah and keep their Israelite customs, so as not to alienate the families through conversion to a foreign religion? Sincere men in these areas of the world are asking for help in this regard. Can the body of Messiah help? These questions and answers are for another discussion.
Lengthen your tent pegs………… For you shall expand to the right and to the left, And your descendants will inherit the nations,
And make the desolate cities inhabited. ….. He is called the God of the whole earth. Is 54:2a,3,5b
Modern references to the Ten tribes becoming Christian
The Mizo of NE India as well as the Hilltribes of Myanmar have distinct markers of Israeliteness so it is NO COINCIDENCE that in the mid-1800s[54] and early 1900s[55] that the missionaries from Great Britain and the USA found them. There is ample documentation that these same missionaries saw these people as ancient Israelites. Rev. Thomas T Torrance in S.W. China wrote books and journals relating to the Israeliteness of the Ch'iang peoples near the Min River, Sichuan, China.[56]
The whole "Lost Book" [57] people, that are south of where Torrance was, were desperately trying to remember their Torah – for the book had been lost. Some say their Golden Book had been neglected then eaten by chickens and pigs [the Karen see footnote[58] below for more detail]. For others, a dog ate it and they had to flee through a hole in a big wall from danger and then they lived in caves [the Chinnlung – Mizo Kuki Chin] The Kuki were fortunate enough to have Dr Khuplam write down their folklore and chants that harkened back to their book.[59]
The "Lost Book" legend was widespread around counties bordering China. Elements of the story of the Karen parallel the story in Altai, southern Siberia. Their story [Altai] had the same Golden Book but now it was also in a Golden Chest being carried across a river. It falls in the river and the wet book is pegged to a fence to dry. Cows eat it. Elements of that story parallel the Karen i) a Golden book ii) animals eat it; but the story also brings to mind an Old Testament story – that of crossing the Jordan River.
Possibly the best/clearest remembered story of the lost book comes from the remembered chants of the Manas Epics in Kyrgyzstan. The kitai khan[60] took and burnt their book.
Emperor Shih Huang Ti in 213 BC burned all the books except those on agriculture and medicine in his bid to unify China. He also relocated people en-mass.[61] This may be the original source of the "Lost Book" etched into the memories of so many peoples around China.
Also, it begs the question, "Which book was so important that for over two millennia the memory of it being lost persisted?"
And again, why did most of these same people embrace Christianity and the bible as their 'lost book'? Were they fulfilling the scripture that "All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to Yehovah. All the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee." Ps 22:27
Within five decades of the Goodnews arriving in Mizoram 100% of the population had become followers of Jesus. It wasn't the missionaries who did that. It was the people themselves. The same thing happened 80 years earlier among the Karen. Today, both these people groups are among the highest missionary sending peoples in the world. What drives them to be that way?
The Celts (Welsh[62], Irish, Scots) – whom themselves were ancient Israelites (long forgotten) – were the missionaries that brought the Goodnews to NE India, Korea and other parts of Asia in 1900s and before that the Anglo Saxons – also ancient Israelites (long forgotten) – in the century before that to Burma.
More recently, I have discovered researchers in South Korea documenting their Israeliteness and again, it is NO COINCIDENCE that some of the biggest churches in modern times are in South Korea. Arimasa Kubo has documented the Israeliteness of the early Shinto temples and also an early Christian presence in Japan.
The Silk Road is replete with myth and legend of the Israelite/Saka/Massagetae and therefore it is no surprise to those of us who understand the Blueprint, that Yeshua left us with, that the Nestorians from the Eastern Churches in Bagdad experienced a Golden age of Christianity spanning five centuries, from 700AD to 1200 AD, all along the Silk Road as far as China and even into Japan.[63]
Conclusion
From scripture we know that the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel are destined to be found by the gospel of the kingdom. Converting these people to rabbinic Judaism and returning them to the small modern political land of Israel falls so far short of the BLUEPRINT the APOSTLES were hearing Yeshua tell them.
That BLUEPRINT, that mystery, was destined to bring all mankind and all the earth into the promises of Abraham, where his seed (singular Yeshua – plural Ten Tribes DNA into most every nation) will be a blessing on all families of the earth.
The same mandate that God spoke to Adam and Eve in Genesis 1:28 "Be fruitful, multiply and take dominion (stewardship is a better description)" are still the divine processes that are being outworked today. In the twenty-first century, we need a fresh understanding of this divine plan; that almost everyone on earth has some DNA from Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, due to the exile and dispersion of the Tribes of Israel. I think we are in a prophetic season of Psalm 22:27 where….
All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD. All the families[64] of the nations will bow down before Him.
Oh that we would all realise that we are family, all mankind. May a Golden Age of Peace and prosperity arrive as we love each other and work towards the Restoration of All Things?[65]
POST SCRIPT
….and by "Good News" I mean the Restoration of All Things [Acts 3:19-21].
Restoration as in the health and wholeness of humanity as Adam and Eve experienced in the garden when they were communing regularly with Yehovah.
Restoration as in the land, by that is meant the soil, being able to produce abundance.
Restoration of the rivers – flowing straight from the throne of heaven – bringing life and healing.
Restoration of many things – all things – you, the reader, know what part you were put here on earth to restore.
Restoration, also, of the whole house of Israel/ the kingdom of Israel. By that I mean all twelve tribes becoming one family again [Acts 1:7-9; Ezekiel 37]. Ezekiel 37 speaks both about the whole house of Israel standing up as in the "Dry Bones" analogy and the joining of the "Two Sticks" of the Lost Ten Tribes northern kingdom with the House of Judah southern kingdom of Israel. It is this scenario that the disciples of Yeshua are asking him in Acts 1, "It is at this time when you will restore the Kingdom of Israel?"
Yeshua answers the disciples in Acts 1 by explaining that the future fulfilment of their question rest in His Fathers hands and that their taking the "Good News" message in an expanding manner from Judea, Samaria then to the ends of the earth is the "how it happens", blueprint. The "Good News" is that the Promised One, the Messiah, has already come and he has power over the kingdom of darkness. He is the Davidic figure viewed as the one who puts the Two Sticks of Ezekiel 37 back together. He, Yeshua, is therefore central to the whole restoration of the kingdom of Israel. And it is He, spiritually, in His ever increasing numbers of disciples[66] which bring about the Restoration of all things.
